How did Minnesota become “the state that votes” – that is, the state that’s known for high-turnout, fraud-free elections? The answer lies in a story that centers on the leadership of Joan Anderson Growe, who served 24 years as Minnesota’s secretary of state. It’s told in the 2020 book, “ Turnout: Making Minnesota the State that Votes ,” which Growe wrote with Lori Sturdevant. A retired Star Tribune editorial writer and columnist, Sturdevant is the author, editor or ghostwriter of 15 books and a three-time winner of the Minnesota Book Award. She will discuss that book as well as her latest, “ Martin Sabo: The Making of the Modern Legislature .” Q&A to follow. Books will be available for signing and purchase.
