But when the Los Angeles Chargers' star running back vanishes one evening before a big game, Coltrane is drawn into an investigation of what happened by Saul and his protégé, the player's agent; the stakes escalate with a gut-punch when the trail leads into San Diego's underworld of drugs and prostitution and reveals clues to the disappearance of his daughter's best friend, whose loss has haunted him. How did Minnesota become “the state that votes” – that is, the state that’s known for high-turnout, fraud-free elections? The answer lies in a story that centers on the leadership of Joan Anderson Growe, who served 24 years as Minnesota’s secretary of state. It’s told in the 2020 book, “ Turnout: Making Minnesota the State that Votes ,” which Growe wrote with Lori Sturdevant. A retired Star Tribune editorial writer and columnist, Sturdevant is the author, editor or ghostwriter of 15 books and a three-time winner of the Minnesota Book Award. She will discuss that book as well as her latest, “ Martin Sabo: The Making of the Modern Legislature .” Q&A to follow. Books will be available for signing and purchase.
