On the Other Side of the Street is Rob Quinn’s account of living through HIV, serious illness, addiction, and the loss of a career and identity he valued. Through the image of a street crossing, he explores recognizing change, accepting support, and beginning again. Each chapter includes reflection questions and a self-care activity. At the reading, Rob will share passages and invite a community conversation about the crossings in our own lives. Rob Quinn is a Hyde Park resident, author, speaker, advocate, long-term survivor, and founder of R4 Style. Drawing on his work with children and families in hospitals and his own experiences of illness, recovery, and change, he writes about finding a way forward when life no longer looks as expected. On the Other Side of the Street is his first book. Accessibility Notice : We strive to make our events accessible. How did Minnesota become “the state that votes” – that is, the state that’s known for high-turnout, fraud-free elections? The answer lies in a story that centers on the leadership of Joan Anderson Growe, who served 24 years as Minnesota’s secretary of state. It’s told in the 2020 book, “ Turnout: Making Minnesota the State that Votes ,” which Growe wrote with Lori Sturdevant. A retired Star Tribune editorial writer and columnist, Sturdevant is the author, editor or ghostwriter of 15 books and a three-time winner of the Minnesota Book Award. She will discuss that book as well as her latest, “ Martin Sabo: The Making of the Modern Legislature .” Q&A to follow. Books will be available for signing and purchase.
