Join local Author Maria Termini as she reads from her new book Available Details: Wonder, Adventure and More ! FROM THE AUTHOR: Available Details: Adventure, Wonder and More (Memoir) contains thirty-one stories from my rich life of many varied experiences. I have imagined myself to be reporting live and with all the abundant details at the scene of certain events and times in my life. From an early age, I was gifted with curiosity, imagination and this has led me to many diverse travels and pursuits. Collecting postage stamps and devouring the colorful pages of National Geographic magazines inspired me with a lifelong desire for adventure that would not be dimmed by my lack of money or the demands of single motherhood. I discovered gold at age nine, volunteered to be Lady Godiva at twenty, learned figure skating at fifty, found enchantment in the Boston Public Schools, traveled to Morocco and Sicily with my twin sons, lived in the White Mountain National Forest, did carpentry work in Hawaii, joined the Peace Corps, hiked on the Appalachian Trail and so many other things. In the patchwork quilt of my life the random pieces work harmoniously together in the unfinished art work that is my life and always with wonder, adventure and joy. Tune into this book and be inspired to follow your own dreams. Accessibility Notice : We strive to make our events accessible. Join local author Alex Krieger as he reads from and discusses his new memoir Greenhorn: Episodes in an Immigrant's Life . It explores a life shaped by motion, memory, cultures and careers, which unfolds in the art of making a home in the unfamiliar. At the age of nine, Alex Krieger arrived in America with his three parents—survivors of the Holocaust. In Chicago, he finds his fourth first-grade classroom to learn a fourth language in four years. From displaced childhood, the journeying continues as teacher, architect, planner of cities. With a poet's sensitivity and a craftsman's precision, Krieger reflects on that greenhorn's instinct to embrace the values of an adopted nation while remaining eyewitness to paradoxes. Alex Krieger is Professor Emeritus at the Harvard Graduate School of Design where he taught since 1977. An architect, planner and author, he has directed design and planning projects in American and international cities, including the reconstruction of the Bund in Shanghai. Former chair of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, he remains an advisor to public and educational institutions, including two terms on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. He is a founding board member of the Leventhal Map & Education Center and the co-author of Mapping Boston. Accessibility Notice : We strive to make our events accessible.
